APN joins a Twitter chat for International Day of Biodiversity

22 May 2021, Saturday — In line with the celebration of the International Day of Biodiversity 2021 themed “We’re part of the solution”, APN joined ICCCAD, UNFCCC NWPOCP, as well as other organizations in a discussion that revolved around the following key questions:

  1. “We’re part of the solution”. How do you identify with this? What does it mean to you?
  2. How can #biodiversity be linked to achieving #SDGs beyond 14 & 15 and contribute to national #development agendas and just recovery efforts?
  3. How can biodiversity connect to #ClimateChange through actions, policies and global processes? What is the role of different stakeholders in this?

Generating an engagement rate of 310 responses in the form of replies, retweets, quoted tweets and likes, the Twitter chat, organized by SLYCAN Trust, talked about solutions and approaches such as repackaging and disseminating scientific information across different stakeholders and the importance of multi-sectoral approaches that are for and by nature. It also highlighted the critical nature of integrating these solutions and approaches into local and national actions and policies. One of the take-aways from the tweets and responses is the message that “the restoration of the health of biodiversity and ecosystems that enhance mitigation and adaptation investments safeguards the most vulnerable populations and supports the SDGs.”
