Adaptation and Resilience Knowledge Hub Launched at COP25 of the UNFCCC

Adaptation and Resilience Knowledge Hub, created by SLYCAN Trust with support from the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Research (APN), had its global launch during the 25th session of the Conference of Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The Adaptation and Resilience Knowledge Hub is created with the aims to provide access to information, research, and knowledge products related to climate change adaptation, loss and damage, and resilience building. It also aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and foster collaborations among technical experts and stakeholders on topics related to climate change adaptation and climate resilience.

The Knowledge Hub is structured to build on contributions from across the world from project partners, practitioners, and researchers, as well as other stakeholders working on climate change. It has as its objectives to provide free and open access to a curated database of adaptation research, case studies, publications, and technical documents, and other resource materials on climate change adaptation and resilience. ‍

The Joint side event organized by Southern Voices on Adaptation and SLYCAN Trust on 5th December 2019, featured the Knowledge Hub, and focused on knowledge management through the portal and preparation of country profiles related to National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). The event had the participation of multiple stakeholders from Asia and Africa, including government officers, civil society organizations, and technical experts from different international and national entities.

Additionally, information on the Knowledge Hub was shared with multiple stakeholders during the NAP Technical Working Group’s meeting organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat and the side event organized by SLYCAN Trust in partnership with the Resilience Frontiers Programme of the UNFCCC, and 50by40.

The Adaptation & Resilience Knowledge Hub is initiated through the financial support of the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN). It was developed as part of the research project titled Policy gaps and Needs Analysis for the Implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) on Adaptation and Loss and Damage in Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, which was implemented from September 2018 to August 2019. The project was led by SLYCAN Trust and conducted in partnership with the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) in Bangladesh, and Prakriti Resources Centre (PRC) in Nepal as national partners.

The Knowledge Hub was presented to the Director of APN Secretariat, Mr Gen’inchiro Tsukada over a dinner meeting on 10 December 2019, with the participation of APN project partners, and the UNFCCC Secretariat, and discussed the potential for its expansion and ways to enhance its product base.

The Hub is also submitted for sharing as a knowledge resource of the Nairobi Work Programme of the UNFCCC. Researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders working on climate change adaptation, loss and damage and resilience building are welcome to contribute information to the Knowledge Hub.
