Hein Mallee is a professor at the Department of Japanese Food Culture of Kyoto Prefectural University, Kyoto, Japan. His current research interests include the sustainability of food systems and the methods of transdisciplinary research. He has worked in China, Southeast Asia and Japan for over 25 years, both as an academic and as an international development practitioner. He has supported capacity building of Asian researchers and coordinated transdisciplinary networks, including the Future Earth community in Asia. He has planned and facilitated numerous workshops, trainings, academic and public events and taken part in the development of training materials for TD research.
