Bashir Ahmad

Pakistan Agricultural Research Council

Dr Bashir Ahmad is a professional hydrologist with 25 years of professional experience in research, academia and consultancy services. He holds PhD from Civil Engineering of Tokyo University. Currently, he is serving as Director Climate Energy & Water Research Institute (CEWRI) of Pakistan Agriculture Research Council, Islamabad. He participated in more than 60 international meetings and conferences abroad of policy, development and science nature mostly in Japan, USA, Canada, Netherland, UK, Australia, etc.

He has more than 50 publications in international journals, 01 book, 06 book chapters, 10 policy briefs, etc. As an HEC-approved PhD supervisor,  he has advised 20 (Mphil/Masters) and 5 PhD students. He has developed and introduced portable solar pumping irrigation system, glaciers, glacial lakes, glacial irrigation systems and spring inventories, agriculture info dashboard etc.

Dr Ahmad has developed and executed 25 projects. He is currently implementing three regional projects. He has organized 04 international conferences, 10 international & 20 national trainings workshops in Pakistan. He has implemented national projects in the field of Water Resource Assessment & Management, drip/sprinkler irrigation, Climate Adaptation and Mitigation projects funded by PSDP, IDRC, DFID, JICA, UNDP, World Bank, ADB etc.

He has contributed in various policy documents including Climate Change, water, Food security as well as implementation of Framework of these policies.  He is leading Pakistan Agriculture & Livestock working group of Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC).
