Professor Andreas Neef is the Dean (Research) for the Arts, Education, and Law Group at Griffith University, a role he began on May 1, 2024. Originally from Germany, Professor Neef holds a PhD from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart and was previously a Professor in Development Studies at the University of Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand.
With over 20 years of extensive research experience in global land and resource grabbing, climate mobilities and justice, climate change adaptation, natural resource governance, and community resilience, Professor Neef has conducted participatory action research and capacity-building initiatives across Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Japan, Fiji, Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, Niger, Benin, and Yemen.
Professor Neef has managed numerous large inter- and transdisciplinary projects funded by prestigious organizations such as the German Research Foundation, Volkswagen Foundation, DAAD, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, the Royal Society of New Zealand, and the European Union.
