Call for Participants: APCC Training Program​​ on Subseasonal-to-Seasonal Forecasting

The APEC Climate Center (APCC), with the aim of realizing the APEC vision of regional prosperity by providing climate information services and technical support for better regional planning, is once again hosting a training program for developing countries in APEC, ASEAN and the Pacific Islands on S2S forecasts.

 

Training Program APCC in the Forefront of S2S Forecast: Leading the way in the fight against extreme phenomena
Date/Time 23-28 July 2018
Venue APEC Climate Center, Busan, the Republic of Korea
Objectives 1. To improve participants’ forecast skills by increasing their understanding of atmospheric phenomena in an S2S (Subseasonal-to-Seasonal) timescale, which often result in extreme events

2. To aid the participants on developing new strategies to reduce risks of natural disasters in developing countries, which are especially vulnerable to extreme events, in climate-related application fields such as water resources, agriculture, and disaster management.

3. To emphasize the importance of utilizing S2S forecasts, especially concerning extreme atmospheric phenomena and natural disasters.

Target applicants Working-level staff from:

  • National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, or;
  • National research institutes in water related fields in developing countries

Applicants who are preferably from APEC economies, ASEAN, or the Pacific Islands

Applicants who are willing and able to make a substantive contribution to their home nation’s efforts against climate variability with what he/she has learned from APCC

How to apply Interested participants are required to apply by email and submit completed application form and a letter of recommendation from his/her current institution/organization.
