The health effects of extreme temperatures are the most significant source of weather-related public health problems. They are also the most direct and well-understood impact of climate change on human health. This project aims to: (1) quantify the total mortality burden attributable to non-optimum ambient temperature in China, Vietnam, Thailand and Bangladesh; (2) examine whether temperature-related health risks varied according to individual and community characteristics; and (3) formulate local adaptation strategies for dealing with temperature-related health effects and reduce vulnerability. The project will have the potential to make a significant contribution to protecting the health of present and future generations in the Asia-Pacific region.
