Community radio stations across South Asia play a critical role in informing remote, marginalised and multilingual communities about climate change and disasters. Yet most broadcasters lack the skills, tools and scientific literacy needed to interpret climate information, understand policy processes, or communicate risks in ways that advance justice, inclusion and local action. This project will strengthen the technical and editorial capacities of up to 100 community radio stations to produce accurate, contextualised and inclusive climate and disaster programming that reflects the realities of women, Indigenous Peoples and youth.
APN support will allow the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) Asia-Pacific and its South Asian network to scale up successful partnerships with United Nations (UN) agencies, Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), universities and disaster authorities, moving from small country-level initiatives to a coordinated regional effort. Through co-designed training, regional exchanges and improved media–policy engagement, broadcasters will enhance their role as trusted communicators, amplify community voices, and help shape fairer and more responsive climate and disaster actions.
