The Mekong Delta CoRe project is implemented taking advantage of two fundamental youth projects of the project’s proponent aiming at promoting and empowering the role of the young generation in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD) in climate change adaptation towards raising vulnerable communities’ resilience. This project adopts the Asset-based community development approach, participatory tools and the Parliament simulation model to conduct activities including knowledge and competence equipment in the first phase (6 months) and support youth fellows to develop community-based actions projects in the second phase (6 months). 12 weekly webinars and a monthly youth series “Delta Youth Talk” are conducted in the first stage to provide 130 youth participants the comprehensive understanding of climate change impacts on the socio-ecology of the VMD. The three-day youth campaign is organized online to equip participants with relevant skills of engaging the vulnerable communities to respond to climate change in the VMD. In the second stage, 13 communities-based action projects are co-developed by groups of participants to enhance the resilient capacity of their chosen communities to climate change impacts. A regional youth conference is conducted at the end of the project to create a room for youth participants in the delta showcasing their achievements and towards advocating policy and urging state managers to integrate youth recommendations in decision-making process.

"The Mekong Delta of Vietnam is one of the world's most vulnerable deltas to the adverse impacts of climate change and sea-level rise. Youth are a critical force for change and have the potential to mobilize stakeholders in activities aimed at responding to and mitigating climate change."

"Young people hold the key to our future. When we talk about climate change, it's easy to get lost in big, abstract concepts. We need to connect with young people on a personal level, using stories that resonate with their everyday lives. Only then will they truly understand the issue and be motivated to act."
