The Mekong Delta CoRe implemented two youth projects aimed at promoting and empowering the young generation in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD) in climate change adaptation, especially in raising vulnerable communities’ resilience. This project adopted the asset-based community development approach, participatory tools, and the learning journey approach to conduct activities.
Activities included knowledge and competence equipment in the first phase (6 months) and support for youth fellows to develop community-based actions projects in the second phase (6 months). The project implemented six webinars with 130 participants and a youth series called “Delta Youth Talk.” The 7 episodes conducted provided the community comprehensive understanding of climate change impacts on the socio-ecology and the development of the VMD.
A three-day youth campaign was organised to equip participants with relevant skills in engaging vulnerable communities to respond to climate change in the VMD. In the second stage, participants co-developed 13 community-based action projects to enhance the resilience and capacity of their chosen communities to climate change impacts. A regional youth conference was also conducted to create a room for youth participants in the delta to showcase their achievements in advocating and urging state managers to integrate youth recommendations into decision-making processes. Finally, a youth-centered stakeholder meeting and the youth action projects’ e-book was created.
