This report outlines the contribution of the APN-funded project CRRP2022-09MY-Myagmarsuren, led by Dr. Altanbagana Myagmarsuren of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, to the formulation of Mongolia’s National Adaptation Plan for Climate Change (NAPCC). The NAPCC, approved in March 2024, includes 11 targets and 74 actions across 8 priority sectors (e.g., ecosystems, water, forestry, livestock, health, and livelihoods) for the period 2023–2030.
Dr. Altanbagana and his team supported the NAPCC by presenting research findings from their APN project on socio-economic vulnerability and climate risk among herders in Khovd Province. These insights helped shape several targets and actions in the NAPCC by providing scientific evidence on vulnerable groups, adaptation needs, and local-level challenges.
The project’s contribution is reflected in key policy elements such as: enhancing local capacity to manage climate risks (Action 1.9), strengthening climate adaptation knowledge (Target 2), and promoting social protection for vulnerable groups (Target 15). Specific actions include training herders on climate finance, identifying vulnerable populations, disaster risk assessments, and increasing fodder security and insurance coverage for herders.
