Agricultural production is responsible for about a quarter of all released greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, deforestation and loss of biodiversity, polluted water. In Vietnam agricultural production is the major livelihood of people in northern mountainous region. Local agricultural wastes, the traditional practice of residue burning and use of raw waste, and abuse of chemical fertilizers are causing serious land degradation, health issues, environmental pollution and GHG emission. Adapting circular economy principles in agriculture are required to face these challenges through improving awareness and capacity of rural farmers in agricultural waste treatment (using Effective Microorganism to treat farmyard manure and agricultural wastes to produce compost) for purposes of pollution control, reduced GHG emission, reuse of agricultural waste, and improved human health, production efficiency. However, the effective implementation of approach requires the awareness, understanding, capacity building, knowledge sharing, technical assistance and cooperation of different stakeholders. Therefore, this project aims to build awareness and capacity for stakeholders through circular agricultural initiatives. Main methods used in this project will focus on bottom-up, grassroot democratic participation and empowerment to increase the capacity of relevant stakeholders. Overall outcome of the project is improved awareness and capacity of all stakeholders.
