Towhida Rashid

Dr Towhida Rashid is a Professor and the founding Chairperson of the Department of Meteorology, University of Dhaka. She obtained her PhD in 2009 from Okayama University, Japan. She served as an Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Planning of the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh from 1999-2004. She has a number of publications in reputed international journals and has written a book on ‘Holocene Sea level scenario of Bangladesh’ published by Springer, Netherlands. She was awarded The Eugene LaFond Medal for the best oral presentation in 2011 in the IAPSO symposium IUGG General Assembly held in Melbourne, Australia. She was an invited speaker at IAPSO, IUGG conference in 2013. Dr Rashid was a senate member of Dhaka University from 2017 to 2020. She is a founding member of the South Asian Meteorologists Association (SAMA). She has been the project director in many governments and aid projects.
