Prof. S.B.Weerakoon is a Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, a Head of the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Peradeniya. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Peradeniya, and master’s degree and a doctoral degree from the University of Tokyo, Japan specializing in hydraulic engineering.

His research interests include computational fluid dynamics, climate change, hydropower development, flood modelling and stormwater drainage. He has over 100 technical publications on his account and he has received presidential research awards.

He is a Chartered Engineer, International Professional Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka, He is the country representative and Member of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), the country representative in the Asian Fluid Mechanics Committee (AFMC), and member of International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR).
