Dr Seak Sophat earned his doctoral and master degrees in Natural Resource Management (2012), and Aquaculture and Aquatic Resource Management (1999) from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. He has an expertise in natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and climate change with nearly 20 years implementing, teaching, researching and evaluating natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and climate change programming in Cambodia, especially in Mekong, Tonle Sap Lake region and Coastal area. Since joining the Royal University of Phnom Penh in 1999, Dr. Seak Sophat has held various positions including Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of Department of Environmental Science, Head of the Department of Natural Resource Management and Development, Vice Dean of Faculty of Development Studies, and Coordinator of MSc in Climate Change Program at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. He has developed natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and climate change curriculums and collaborated with numerous projects throughout Cambodia to develop relevant programming for both university-level students and natural resource management and climate change professionals. He has been engaged with various consultancy projects within Cambodia and Region. His current research interests are focusing on hydropower development and climate change adaptation by using nature based solutions in Mekong region.
