Dr. rer. Nat. Ronald C. Macatangay established the Atmospheric Research Unit (ARU) at the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) situated in the mountainous region of Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. His main research interest is in understanding aerosol-meteorology interactions using ground-based atmospheric LiDARs and regional numerical weather prediction (NWP) systems. He is also an adjunct professor at the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM) at the University of the Philippines, a professorial lecturer at De La Salle University in Manila and a consultant for Clean Air Asia. He earned his doctorate degree at the University of Bremen in Germany and was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Wollongong in Australia.
