Ohnmar May Tin Hlaing

Dr Ohnmar May Tin Hlaing got her MB, BS degree from the Institute of Medicine (I), Yangon, Myanmar. She received a Certificate in Analytical Toxicology as a WHO fellow in AIIMS & ITRC, India and then post-graduate in Environmental Toxicology, Technology and Management in the interuniversity program of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Chulaborn Research Institute (CRI). She is a member of the Myanmar Medical Association (MMA), an AIT Alumni, a member of the Asian Pacific Association of Medical Toxicology (APAMT) and a member of IGAC (Monsoon Asia, Oceania Networking Group) as well.

She has been working as an environmental health consultant in Myanmar for years. She was a former research scientist at the National Poison Control Center, Department of Medical Research, Ministry of Health with over 14years of progressive responsibility in environmental programs as well as public healthcare.

She conducted the first initiative of air quality monitoring projects funded by the UN Environment in Myanmar as a principal investigator together with the respective government bodies in 2007- 2008. She carried out as a local consultant for Clean Air Management for Myanmar under the German Technical Cooperation – Clean Air for Smaller Cities in the ASEAN Region and developed Myanmar country profile, 2014.

Furthermore, the research work “Interface between science-based data and policy action : Ambient Air Monitoring, Air Impact Assessment, Personal PM 2.5 Exposure, Health Risk Assessment, Awareness and Mitigation Measures” granted by the International Council For Science Regional Office For ASIA AND THE PACIFIC is presented in the Newsletter of APCAP ( UN Environment Programme).

At present, she is conducting the project building local capacities on the Short-Lived Climate Forces (SLCFs) and Open waste burning granted by IGES ( CCET)
