Mukand S. Babel

Dr Mukand S. Babel is a Water Engineering and Management Professor at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. He is also the Director of the Centre for Water and Climate Adaptation (CWCA) at AIT. He has been Visiting/Honorary Professor at universities/institutes in Germany, the UK, India, China, Japan, and Malaysia. Prof. Babel’s professional experience in teaching, research, and consultancy spans over 38 years in hydrologic and water resources modelling, integrated water resources management, climate change impact and adaptation, and flood and drought analysis, forecasting and management. Prof. Babel was a Member of the Executive Committee, APD-IAHR (2015-22). He was one of the Directors of the Executive Board of IWRA (2016-18). He has been a Board Member of the Asia Water Council (AWC) since its inception in 2016. He was a recipient of the 2018 International Award by JSHWR. He appeared in the world’s top 2% list of scientists in 2020 for research impact based on 2019 achievements in Engineering. Prof. Babel was also featured among the world’s top 1000 influential climate scientists in the Reuters Hot List published in April 2021. He has supervised 35+ doctoral and 220+ master theses, over 300 scientific publications, and an h-index of 42. He has conducted 90+ research/sponsored projects with several international organizations and governments.
