Lariyah Mohd Sidek

Prof. Datin Ir. Dr Lariyah Mohd Sidek is a Co-President of MYCOLD (Malaysian National Committee on Large Dams), a Professor in Dam Safety & Flood Evaluation and a Lecturer at the Institute of Energy Infrastructure and Civil Engineering Department, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia. She is currently a Chairman of the Technical Committee Dam Safety of Malaysia and a Chairman of the International Conference on Dam Safety Management & Engineering (ICDSME) 2022. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, with a Bachelor of Science (Civil Engineering) in 1989 and from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom, with a Master of Science (Civil Engineering), majoring in Engineering Hydrology in 1991. She was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Civil Engineering) majoring in Urban Drainage in 2004. She is the Co-President of the Malaysian National Committee on Large Dams. She has more than 29 years of experience in research and consultancy work, mostly as a project leader related to Water Resources, Hydrotechnical and Dam Safety, with total funding of about RM 28 Million. She has been actively involved in numerous research projects and consultancy services in hydrotechnical, dam safety, hydrodynamic modelling, dam break flood assessment & emergency planning, reservoir sedimentation, and flood forecasting. She has conducted a number of training such as Dam disaster risk reduction program, Dam break analysis and modelling, Flood Assessment and Emergency Action Plan exercises & stakeholder engagement programs for Dam Disaster management. She has authored and co-authored over 350 technical and academic papers in various journals, book chapters and proceedings She has also received more than 30 national and international gold and silver medal awards related to water research, hydrology and hydrotechnical design and invention, including INPEX USA, ITEX Malaysia and INNOVA Belgium.
