Dr Kar is a former principal Scientist in Soil Physics and soil water conservation and presently Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Kolkata with PhD in Agricultural Physics from IARI, New Delhi.

Having around 23 years of experience in research, extension and project management and executed 36 national, international research projects on Quantity and quality improvement in jute and allied fibre crops; Land use and cropping system characterization using remote sensing and GIS; crop growth; water and watershed management; climate change research, mitigation and adaptation.  Published 104 peer-reviewed research articles, 6 books, 20 book chapters, several technical manuals, articles, etc. For significant contribution in natural resources management, received many national, international awards.

Dr Kar is the recipient of many awards and recognitions like ICAR-Hari Om Ashram Trust Award (2008); ICAR-Vasant Rao Naik Award (2005); Rajbhasa Gaurav Puraskar, Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI (2019); NAAS Recognition Award (2012); ICAR-Swami Sahajananda Saraswati Award (2019); Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellowship, USA (2011-12); IARI-Hooker Award (2018); IARI-Sukumar Bose Memorial Award (2007); USDA-Norman Borlaug International Fellowship, USA (2008); Dr K.G. Tejwani Award of IASWC (2008); Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, (FNAAS) (2011)

Dr Kar is also a Fellow of several professional societies like Indian Association of Soil & Water Conservationists, FIASWC (2012); Fellow of Association of  Agro-meteorologists, FAAM (2010); Fellow of Indian Society of Soil Science, FISSS (2018); Fellow of West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology, FWAST (2017); Fellow of Indian Society of Coastal Agricultural Research (FISCAR, 2021) and got offer fellowship of  Indian Council of Agricultural Research, FN (2010).
