27 May 2014, Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia — Dr. Akio Takemoto, Director of the APN Secretariat visited the Ministry of Environment, Cambodia in talks for a co-financing partnership that will increase access to global change research funds by Cambodian researchers.
The partnership, once established, will increase ownership by the Kingdom of Cambodia of global change research under the APN through making use of the APN’s well-established review and monitoring mechanism. The envisaged partnership will also increase access to scientific data and knowledge existing in other member countries of APN by researchers in the Kingdom of Cambodia, while expanding their network within other member countries of APN.
This initiative builds on the discussions made during APN’s recent 19th Inter-Governmental Meeting held in Siem Reap, Cambodia in March 2014, and is part of a larger effort towards a more comprehensive, refreshed co-financing mechanism that will expand APN’s funding base while increasing ownership of its 22 member countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
A consultation meeting was held on day two of the visit, involving over twenty participants, including staff members of the Ministry of Environment, Cambodia and stakeholders from universities, international organisations and research institutes in Cambodia.
