APN/IGES-Kansai Research Centre (KRC) Joint Scoping Activity on Regional-CES awarded as the Best Poster at the International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP) 2023

The APN Secretariat was invited to present the outcomes of the Asia-Pacific Nework for Global Change Research and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies – Kansai Research Centre’s “Joint Activity on Regional Circulating and Ecological Sphere (CES)” (APN Reference-No. AOA2020-01-RCES) at Parallel Session 2 “Mainstreaming CES in the Post-2030 Agenda for Enhancing Integrated Action on Climate and Sustainability Goals: Towards Bridging Local-to-Global Feedback Loops”, which was held on 19 December 2023 in Yokohama, Japan, under the programme of the International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP) 2023.

The main objective of the above-mentioned Joint Activity was to investigate the applicability of the Regional-CES concept under different economic and social preconditions in three Southeast Asian countries (the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia) and identify potential entry points, as well as challenges for the implementation of Regional-CES and other similar frameworks to achieve SDGs.

A poster summarising the results of the three national workshops was presented at the poster session and voted as the best poster of ISAP 2023. This is an excellent achievement for the APN/IGES-KRC team. The following are the main messages compiled in the poster:

  • Need for equitable rural-urban collaboration by utilising the strengths and locally available resources;
  • Inclusion of all stakeholder groups, including those of older people, the young generation and other minority groups;
  • Identification of entry points must consider specific local needs; and
  • Linking efforts at the local level with policies of subnational, national and international
