Call for Applications: Joint workshop on DSSAT and MWCropDSS 2019 International Training in Thailand

The Chiang Mai University organizing an International training workshop with the University of Florida, DSSAT Foundation, United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), Asia Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), the Thailand Science, Research and Innovation (TSRI), and Rice Department of Thailand (RD) on understanding of simulation models in predicting relationships of agricultural resources.

Event

Training Workshop DSSAT and MWCropDSS 2019 International Training in Thailand: Efficient and Precision Agricultural Resource Utilization under Changes with Simulation Models and GIS

Date/Time

19-24 August 2019

Objectives

  1. To gain a better understanding of simulation models in predicting relationships of agricultural resources, i.e., water and nitrogen under various weather and climate conditions, on crop phenology and growth.
  2. Applications of DSSAT-CSM model to improve management of cropping systems and its associated crop simulation models such as CERES.
  3. Minimum data requirements and experimental data collection for system simulations using Windows-based Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT) version 4.7 (DSSAT.org) and MWCropDSS software.
  4. Strengthening technical and scientific abilities by enhancing collaboration between the National Agricultural Research System (NARS), policymakers, and local communities with International organizations

Target Applicants

The target participants of this workshop should be university graduates currently engaged in crop production or agro-ecosystems related research, teaching, planning, extension, and outreach. Participants should have some understanding of crop and soil science and be relatively familiar with the terminology used in these fields. An in-depth knowledge, nevertheless, is not a precondition. Selected participants should be familiar with personal computers and the Windows operating environment. Lastly, participants must understand English.

How to apply

Interested participants are required to apply online via this URL: https://www.carsr.agri.cmu.ac.th/training/dssat2019/Regis.aspx

Limited Scholarships

APN-Funded project entitled, “Capacity Development Training Workshop on Crop Simulation Modeling and Effects of Climate Risks on Agricultural Production Systems in Southeast Asia” (https://www.apn-gcr.org/resources/items/show/2102), will cover full registration fees USD 1,000 only for the selected applicants and they will receive the DSSAT (Version 4.7 for Windows) and MWCropDSS software and the book ‘Understanding options for Agricultural Production’. The scholarship covers only for the early career researchers, scientists, academicians and extension officers from Thailand.
