Proposal development training workshops

APN is committed to empowering early career professionals, with the ambition to lead and participate in international research for long-term benefits in a sustainable Asia-Pacific region. With this comment, APN introduced the first proposal development training workshop (PDTW) in 2008 under our capacity development agenda. Since then, APN has conducted 17 in-person and virtual PDTWs throughout the four Asia-Pacific subregions.

Applications for the 2024 Pacific PDTW are now open here. Submit your application before Tuesday, 30 April 2024, midnight JST.

Aims and Objectives

  • Raise awareness about APN amongst early career professionals in the Asia-Pacific region;
  • Increase the capacity of early career professionals to submit proposals to APN and compete in its call for proposals processes;
  • Create opportunities for networking, finding research collaborators and building professional relationships;
  • Enhance the participation of early-career professionals  in regional research activities; and
  • Empower APN members and project leaders to share their knowledge of the APN proposal submission process.

Candidate eligibility

  1. Applicants must be early-career scientists/practitioners of 40 years of age and under as of the application deadline. Current students, research assistants, and post-doctoral students are encouraged to apply.
  2. Applicants should be working in areas of, or have academic experience related to, the workshop’s main topic.
  3. Applicants must be one of the following:
    • An undergraduate degree holder with five years of related working experience;
    • A postgraduate working towards a PhD or Master’s degree;
    • Minimum a Master’s degree holder with three years of related work experience;
    • A PhD degree with at least one year of working experience, or received their highest postgraduate degree within the previous ten years.
    • A post-doctoral student.
  4. Applicants must currently be affiliated with an academic or national/regional research institution. 
  5. Applicants must have a good working knowledge of the English language.
  6. Applicants must provide letter of recommendation from their supervisor and a motivation essay
