APN Sessions at LoCARNet’s 3rd Annual Meeting

2426 November 2014, Indonesia — The APN organised a session on Low Carbon Initiatives (LCI) at Low Carbon Asia Research Network’s (LoCARNet) 3rd Annual Meeting convened at Aston Bogor Hotel and Resort, Bogor, Indonesia.

Showcasing outcomes of projects under its LCI Framework, APN session was held on the second day of the meeting wherein six APN-funded project representatives presented their work outcomes. The discussion was focused on the preparation of a policy brief as a synthesis of findings and evidence-based policy recommendations derived from LCI projects.

Co-financing Model of Research Partnership

A different session focused on New Co-financing Model of Research Partnership was held, participated by Mr. B.M.U.D. Basnayke, APN Steering Committee Chair, Mr. Sabar Ginting, APN national Focal Point for Indonesia, Dr. Erna Sri Adiningsih, APN Scientific Planning Group member for Indonesia, and Dr. Akio Takemoto, APN national Focal Point for Japan.

Based on the discussions that ensued, the session concluded with the following points considering varying characteristics of fund utilisation of each represented country:

  • Some developing countries need assistance or a model with regard to effectively using national level research funds.
  • Developed countries, international organisations and regional network such as APN can play an active role in assisting developing countries on fund utilisation.
  • Regional collaboration is a key factor for enhanced regional assessment. Through such collaboration, national funds can contribute to regional assessment through effective utilisation of funds within the country.
