Salinity intrusion in low-lying agricultural areas in South Asia due to climate change, sea level rise and various anthropogenic activities, has become a serious environmental issue. The aim is to select the best management practices for those salinity affected agricultural areas in the region considering their net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other climate benefits, anticipating future promotion of those practices among the farmers and providing recommendations for the policy makers. A scoping workshop will be held in Sri Lanka to develop a full proposal by revising the previously submitted version submitted to the APN for ARCP funding in 2013. The scoping workshop will be held in Sri Lanka in January 2015, with the participation of the collaborators from South Asia and the USA. The potential participation of any collaborator/s from the global carbon budget will also be looked into. The workshop will be conducted to get the views and active contribution from the foreign and in-country participants in refining/amending the original proposal submitted in 2013, through group discussions and presentations. The outcome of the workshop will be documented and included in the final report/s to be submitted by September 2015. The revision of the proposal with be done by the Principal Investigator by incorporating any suggestions and amendment/s received from the collaborators, and the resubmission will be made in October 2015.
