Project update: APN project exploring the nexus between climate change, ageing, and disability in two Asian countries is steadily progressing

Accordingly, over the recent past, the two Asian countries have been concurrently witnessing various extreme climate hazards as well as sociocultural dynamics. Moreover, as climate change progresses, some of its extreme hazards, like floods and typhoons, will also increase and disproportionately affect some vulnerable groups, including older adults and those with disabling conditions. In this regard, after facing some COVID-19-related delays, our research project exploring the life experiences of persons aged 60 years and older with disabilities affected by climate-induced disasters in China and the Philippines is steadily progressing. I’m glad to report that the successful implementation of its first phase has been so far done, and it aimed at synthesizing the existing evidence about the disabling conditions aggravated by floods and typhoons in China and the Philippines, respectively, on older persons in the face of climate change. Also, I wish to report that the implementation of another project phase is currently ongoing. Accordingly, the phase aims at attaining experts’ consensus through international Delphi consensus consultations on various geriatric care interventions that are helpful to older adults in managing or living with different disabling health conditions identified in the previous project phase to be associated with or induced by floods and typhoons among the older Chinese and Filipinos in the context of ongoing climate change scenarios.
