Guideline for Farmers: Handbook of agroecological farming practice for climate change adaptation and mitigation

Agroecology is a holistic approach that emphasizes the interconnectedness of plants, animals, and  their environment. It seeks to promote sustainable and regenerative farming practices that can  help to improve soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. One of the key benefits of  agroecology is its potential to enhance the resilience of farming systems to climate change. This manual, written in Vietnamese, provides smallholder farmers a practical guide on agroecology to increase their yields, improve soil health, and reduce their reliance on chemical inputs.

The manual provides step-by-step instructions for different composting methods (hot composting, vermicomposting) and ultilise abundant resources from invasive species (golden snails) to make compost. This manual also introduces guidance on how to prepare harmful insect and golden snail  traps as well as how to make natural fungicide and biological pesticide. Application of Effective Microorganisms (EM) products on improving soil health, boost plant growth, and control pests and diseases is also provided in the manual as a measure to enhance the resilience of crops and soil to climate change impacts. Finally, techniques on intercropping (selecting compatible crops, designing intercropping systems) are presented in the manual to promote a more diverse and resilient farming system, reducing the risk of crop failure, improving soil health, and increasing  overall productivity.

By adopting these practices, farmers can build more resilient and adaptive farming systems that can help to ensure food security and improve livelihoods in the face of a changing climate.
