An exploration of multi-scale network structure of the Yangtze River middle reaches urban agglomerations based on an interlocking model

The existing research on urban agglomeration in China has focused more on the mature one in the coastal developed areas, while the inland one in the developing stage has been largely ignored. Moreover, limited research on the inland urban agglomeration is more limited to the analysis of provincial urban agglomeration’s scale, spatial characteristics and development strategies, while there is a lack of multi-scale urban correlation analysis for inter-provincial urban agglomeration. Based on an interlocking model, this paper explores the urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River from the sub-regional level, regional level and national level, which includes Wuhan City Circle, ChangshaZhuzhou-Xiangtan Urban Agglomeration, the Poyang Lake Urban Agglomeration and the City Belt around Wanjiang River.
