The key outcome was a well-organised regional conference for countries in the Asia-Pacific region on issues such as sea-level rise. The conference provided strong support for existing networks and projects from the APN, LOICZ (the IGBP/IHDP Core Project on Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone) and SURVAS (Synthesis and Upscaling of Sea-Level Rise Vulnerability and Assessment Studies). Besides scientists, the conference successfully involved policy-makers, the public and other stakeholders at an open symposium. As follow-up activities, a Global Synthesis Workshop was held, and a SURVAS database of global impacts of climate change and sea-level rise was developed.
