In 2026, the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) marks its 30th anniversary. Over three decades, APN has supported collaborative research, strengthened scientific capacity and advanced science-informed decisionmaking across the Asia-Pacific.
In this context, the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of APN provides an opportunity to reflect on its contributions and reaffirm its role in supporting regional responses to global change.
Empowering the Asia-Pacific for a sustainable future
The 30th anniversary will be celebrated under the theme “Empowering the Asia-Pacific for a sustainable future.” This theme reflects the ongoing commitment of APN to enabling collaboration between scientists, policymakers and practitioners, promoting knowledge exchange and supporting the development of effective and inclusive responses to global change.
The anniversary will begin with a commemorative event at the 27th Intergovernmental Meeting and Scientific Planning Group Meeting, to be held from 7–10 July 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, in collaboration with the National Research Council of Thailand. The event will bring together members, partners and the wider research community to reflect on APN’s contributions and identify priorities for the years ahead.
Throughout 2026, APN will undertake a series of activities to highlight its achievements and partnerships over the past three decades. These include project showcases and outreach initiatives that demonstrate how collaborative research informs policy and practice in the region.
APN invites its member countries, project leaders, partners and stakeholders to mark this milestone and continue strengthening regional collaboration in support of a sustainable and resilient Asia-Pacific region.
Further information on anniversary activities and resources will be shared on the website, social media channels and newsletter of APN.
