Andrew Matthews has a PhD in atmospheric physics from the University of Canterbury. He has more than 30 years research experience in environmental science and sustainable development with DSIR and NIWA in New Zealand as well seven years at a Max Planck Institute in Germany, and extended periods in France and Japan. He coordinated the New Zealand / Germany Science and Technology Agreement for six years. In addition to authoring or being a co-author on more than 150 publications, Dr Matthew’s professional responsibilities have included terms as Chair of Scientific Planning Group of APN; a Member of New Zealand’s Royal Society’s Climate Change Committee and two terms as the Natural Science Commissioner on New Zealand’s National Commission for UNESCO.
