Prof. Katayama works in the Department of Urban Engineering, School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo, Japan. He is an expert in the safety of water from a viewpoint of microbiology, including the detection of pathogens, disinfection techniques and risk assessment. He obtained his doctoral degree in the School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo, in 1998.
