Assoc. Professor Glenn F. Fernandez, PhD, currently holds the position of Associate Professor at Rabdan Academy in Abu Dhabi, UAE, specializing in disaster waste management, environmental planning, science diplomacy, youth participation, and nature-based solutions. Dr. Fernandez’s diverse career encompasses significant roles, including his previous position as an Associate Professor at the Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction of Sichuan University. Prior engagements saw him as a researcher at the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center and the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies at Kyoto University.
Recognized for his impactful research and advocacy, Dr Fernandez received the 2019 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award in the Philippines, attributing it to his decade-long commitment to youth participation in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). As an Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) Young Scientist, Dr. Fernandez serves as the Early Career Champion for the “Sustainable Solutions from the Global South” pillar at the 2021 Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress.
Despite his extensive international engagements, Dr. Fernandez remains dedicated to advancing knowledge in disaster science and related fields, contributing as a Section Editor for Progress in Disaster Science from 2019 to 2020. Currently affiliated with Rabdan Academy, his commitment to disaster research continues to influence and inspire future generations.
