Dr Douglas Hill is an Associate Professor in Development Studies, School of Geography, University of Otago, New Zealand. His geographic research focus is South Asia (including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Pakistan), with secondary research interests in a range of sites across Asia, Australia, and Aotearoa New Zealand. The thematic focus of this research is issues significant for future sustainable development and inclusive social change, including how societies can sustainably share water within and across international borders in an era of climate change, transition towards low-carbon economies, or manage growing cities in the face of increasing inequality. While working at Otago, he has held visiting positions at the University of Essex (UK); the Hague Institute for Global Justice (The Netherlands); Helmholtz Institute for Environmental Studies (Germany), University of Heidelberg (Germany); and Shiv Nadar University (India). He has also worked as a consultant for the World Bank and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
