Dr. Binod Pokharel is an Associate Professor in the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology at Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Dr. Pokharel completed his PhD from the University of Wyoming, USA in 2014 having completed a Master of Science in atmospheric science from the same institute in 2009. His research areas are mountain meteorology, winter orographic cloud seeding, extreme weather, climate variability and climate change. His other interests include transboundary transport of air pollution and forest fire research. He is currently working on a sub-seasonal scale drought and fire weather forecasting model, validation and bias correction of CMIP6, and the development of a citizen science program, particularly in Nepal. His previous work also focused on a research-to-operation project that developed a cloud-seeding weather forecasting model and tools for Utah, USA. He also received research grants for the project: “An Integrated Assessment of Regional Climate-Water-Energy-Land Decision Modeling” from the Department of Energy, USA, and for the project: “Development of Citizen Science program in Nepal”.
