Center for Climate Risk and Opportunity Management in Southeast Asia and the Pacific

Dr Akhmad Faqih is a climatologist and faculty member at the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology, IPB University, currently serving as Vice Dean for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. His scientific work is centered on the analysis and modeling of climate variability and change, with emphasis on rainfall dynamics, monsoonal circulation, and large-scale drivers such as ENSO and the Indian Ocean Dipole. He applies both statistical and dynamic downscaling techniques to improve the resolution and reliability of regional climate projections, and has contributed to the development of bias correction methods and data reconstruction approaches for climate scenarios. Previously, as Director of Climate Modeling at the Centre for Climate Risk and Opportunity Management in Southeast Asia and Pacific (CCROM), he led research programs that integrated climate model outputs with sectoral applications, including agriculture, water resources, and disaster risk reduction. His publications and projects highlight the importance of bridging theoretical climatology with applied environmental management, ensuring that scientific advances inform resilience strategies in Indonesia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
