A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology

Russian Federation

The A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology (NSCMB) is an institution based in Vladivostok, Russian Federation, under the Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences. Its work includes scientific research, conservation, monitoring, public awareness, education and training.

APN and NSCMB

APN and the Institute’s partnership began at a Global Change Awareness Raising Symposium, which was hosted by the Institute in October 2002.  The event raised awareness among science and decision makers on climate change and its impacts in Northeast Asia in collaboration with international institutions in the global change community, including START, LOICZ, GlOBEC, and PAGES. Since then, APN and NSCMB have cooperated in various research, capacity development and science-policy activities, particularly on marine biology, marine biodiversity and coastal zone management,  involving countries in Temperate East Asia and South East Asia.

As NSCMB celebrates its 50th anniversary, APN expresses its warmest congratulations and hope that the fruitful cooperation will continue as NSCMB plays an increasingly important role in marine biology research and capacity development in the Far East region of Russia.
