This event will be held in conjunction with the Joint APN 27th Intergovernmental and Scientific Planning Group Meeting and the 30th Anniversary celebration, hosted by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), scheduled to convene at Jubilee Prestige Hotel Ratchadapisek, Bangkok, Thailand, from 9–10 July 2026.
This platform offers an opportunity to showcase your scholarly pursuits on a regional stage, fostering engagement with peers, research experts and policymakers across multifaceted disciplines. By imparting your insights and expertise, you will contribute to the discourse surrounding climate change and variability and disaster risk reduction, thereby shaping strategies and policies for a more sustainable future.
The winning poster presenter will be awarded the prestigious Mitra Award for Global Change Research and given a coveted space in the plenary to present their work to APN member governments and research institutions from the Asia-Pacific region.

Main theme
Thailand ranked among the countries most affected by climate change during the period 2000–2019, both in terms of human impacts and direct economic losses (Department of Climate Change and Environment, 2024). The country faces numerous climate-related hazards, with floods identified as one of the most significant threats that could potentially affect two million people by 2070–2100. Droughts and cyclones also represent major hazards that may intensify under future climate scenarios (World Bank, 2021).
Recognising these challenges, Thailand has reinforced its continued commitment to climate action. In 2024, Thailand submitted its second updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) under the Paris Agreement to strengthen national efforts in mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and addressing the impacts of climate change. The NDC 3.0 establishes an economy-wide emissions reduction target of cutting net GHG emissions by 47% from 2019 levels by 2035, in line with Thailand’s long-term objective of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
In the same year, Thailand submitted its first National Adaptation Plan (NAP), which outlines institutional arrangements, targets, indicators and priority adaptation actions aimed at strengthening resilience to climate change and climate-related disasters (Department of Climate Change and Environment, 2024).
Under the theme “Climate Change and Variability and Disaster Risk Reduction,” the 11th APN Early Career Poster and Networking Session in Thailand aims to provide a platform for early career professionals (ECPs) to share research findings that contribute to understanding climate change and variability, and managing climate-related risks. Through this session, ECPs are also given an opportunity to connect with scientists and government officials and support the implementation of NDC 3.0, the NAP and other measures that strengthen the climate resilience of Thailand.
Eligibility criteria
- Applicants must be Thai national Early Career Professionals (ECPs) who are conducting their research in Thailand. Research students and postdoctoral researchers are encouraged to apply.
- Thai ECPs working outside of Thailand are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be available to set up and present on 9 July 2026 at Jubilee Prestige Hotel Ratchadapisek, Bangkok, Thailand.
Abstract submission
- The research must be original. Only abstracts under the theme “Climate Change and Variability and Disaster Risk Reduction” are accepted.
- Abstracts must be in line with one of the following sub-themes:
- Integrating climate information into DRR planning, including the use of seasonal forecasts, climate projections, and risk modelling to support early action and preparedness.
- Enhancing Early Warning Systems and community-based monitoring mechanisms to provide timely and reliable information that can reduce loss and damage.
- Heat stress and health vulnerability assessments, particularly in rapidly urbanising environments, where exposure to extreme temperatures poses growing risks to public health and productivity.
- Nature-based and ecosystem-based approaches, such as mangrove restoration, watershed management and coastal protection, deliver co-benefits for biodiversity and livelihoods and are essential for risk reduction and adaptation.
- Abstracts must be written in English within 300 words. It should be a concise, text-only description of the research subject, methodology, results and conclusions. ECPs are encouraged to seek assistance from their advisers and other resource persons in preparing their abstracts and posters.
- Abstracts will be screened by the APN Secretariat. The main criteria include originality of the research, conciseness of the abstract, clarity of methodology, organisation of the information, and scientific merit.
How to apply
Once you confirm your eligibility, please submit your poster abstract and application at Asia-Pacific Network Information System (APNIS) from 27 April to 15 May 2026.
UPDATED submission timeline
- 27 April 2026, Monday: Online abstract submission opens.
- 1 June 2026, Monday: Online abstract submission closes.
- 1 June 2026, Monday: The APN Secretariat informs successful applicants about the selection result. Due to the large volume of applications, APN will not provide individual feedback on submissions.
- 15 June 2026, Monday: Deadline for submitting finalised posters in PDF format to the APN Secretariat. Poster presenters must print out their posters using the guidelines provided separately.
- 9 July 2026, Thursday: Poster presenters set up their posters at the meeting venue. Further details will be provided separately.
