Dr Elanni Md Affandi is the Assistant Secretary of the Geological Society of Malaysia (GSM). She is also a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geology, Universiti Malaya, since 2023. She is a member of the GSM Working Group on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, working on disaster-resilient cities, climate extremes and geohazard assessment in Kuala Lumpur. Her professional experience also includes consultancy projects involving geotechnical safety assessments for underground mining, geotourism potential, land stability, erosion and river sedimentation. Her expertise encompasses urban geology, GIS-based geohazard assessment, landslide susceptibility modelling and disaster risk reduction. She is also currently exploring the applications of big data and artificial intelligence in her work.
