Ang Mia Yang

Sunway University

Dr Ang Mia Yang is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Jeffrey Cheah Sunway Medical School, Sunway University, Malaysia. He holds a PhD in Medical Science from The University of Tokyo, Japan, with specialisation in bioinformatics and genomic data analysis.

His research interests span bioinformatics, microbial genomics, antimicrobial resistance, microbiome research, next-generation sequencing, multi-omics, and biomedical data science. His work focuses on applying computational and genomic approaches to investigate microbial diversity, pathogen evolution, antimicrobial resistance, and host–microbe interactions, with broader applications in public health, environmental health, and precision medicine.

Dr Ang has experience in the development and application of reproducible bioinformatics workflows for whole-genome sequencing, metagenomics, comparative genomics, phylogenomics, and antimicrobial resistance surveillance. He has also contributed to collaborative genomic resource development, including the AMRColab antimicrobial resistance surveillance platform supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through PHA4GE.

His research increasingly integrates genomic, epidemiological, environmental, and computational data to support evidence-based surveillance and decision-making. He is actively involved in multidisciplinary and international research collaborations addressing infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, microbiomes, and the application of data science and artificial intelligence in biomedical and environmental research.
