The Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) is pleased to invite Early Career Professionals (ECPs) registered with APN-ECAP, the Asia-Pacific Network of Early Career Professionals for Global Change Research, to apply to participate in a specialised training activity on the review of the First Order Drafts of the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) Working Group II and Working Group III.
In collaboration with the Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiative (SEADPRI), the Institute for Environment and Development at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, the Co-Chair of IPCC Working Group III on Mitigation of Climate Change and the Chair of the Asian Network on Climate Science and Technology (ANCST), the training is scheduled to take place on 24-25 November 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The activity will provide selected ECPs with an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the IPCC assessment and review process and develop practical experience in critically reviewing draft IPCC assessment material. It is intended to support greater engagement of early career researchers from the Asia-Pacific region in the AR7 cycle and strengthen their capacity to contribute to future international scientific assessment processes.
A. Eligibility
Applicants must:
- be registered members of APN-ECAP, as of 30 September 2026;
- be early career scientists/practitioners of 40 years of age and under as of the application deadline. Applicants must be one of the following:
- A postgraduate student working towards a PhD or Master’s degree (final year);
- A Master’s degree holder with three years of related work experience;
- A PhD degree holder with at least one year of working experience, or received their highest postgraduate degree within the previous ten years.
- have an academic background in a climate-related field;
- have an interest in the work of IPCC Working Group II and/or Working Group III and in contributing to climate change research and assessment processes; and,
- have a good working knowledge of the English language.
APN expects to select up to eleven ECPs to participate in the activity. Eligible participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, so interested ECPs are strongly encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible.
B. Sponsorship
For selected participants, APN will provide:
- round-trip airfare
- accommodation
- a modest daily subsistence allowance (DSA)
- related visa costs
There is no registration fee to participate in the workshop.
C. Application process through the APN Information System (APNIS)
Interested ECPs should complete the mandatory steps outlined below:
- Complete and submit the application form on the APN Information System (APNIS): https://www.apn-gcr.org/apnis/public/events/31.
- Submit a resume/CV (maximum 2 pages) with minimum details: Full name, nationality, date of birth, gender, current affiliation, and education/employment history.
- Submit a brief letter (300-400 words) explaining how participation in the activity would benefit your career and professional development.
- Provide the names and contact details of two referees in the letter.
D. Application deadline
The deadline for applications is Tuesday, 13 October, 23:59 Japanese Standard Time (JST) on the APNIS interface: https://www.apn-gcr.org/apnis/public/events/31.
Additional Information:
- Participants of the workshop will be provided with breakfast and lunch during the event.
- Participants are required to commit to attending the full two days of events to gain the maximum benefit from the programme.
