Muhammad Helmi Abdullah

Director General, Malaysian Meteorological Department

Mr  Muhammad Helmi Abdullah joined the Malaysian Meteorological  Department (MET Malaysia) in 1988, is the 10th Director-General of MET Malaysia. He obtained a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Malaya in 1987 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Meteorology from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Training School in 1990. With the experience of more than 33 years, he has extensive experience in weather forecasting as well as marine meteorology and oceanography, specifically in wave and storm surge modelling. He also actively publishes journals, bulletins and major papers in the areas of weather, climatology and numerical weather forecast models with local and international recognition. In fact, he was also directly involved in the development of the High Performance Computing System for numerical weather forecasting which successfully increased the capacity in providing accurate weather forecasting. He holds his current position as the Director-General of the Malaysian Meteorological Department on 1 August 2021.
