Training in Science-Policy Interfacing to Promote the Application of Scientific Knowledge on Adaptation of Forests and Forest Management to Climate Change

This project has been implemented within the framework of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations’ Special Programme for Developing Countries (IUFRO-SPDC). As part of its mission to expand forest research capacity in developing countries, IUFRO-SPDC runs a series of training workshops on “Working effectively at the Interface of Forest Science and Forest Policy.” With support from APN one of these training workshops was implemented as pre-conference event in conjunction with the IUFRO Conference on Adaptation of Forests and Forest Management to Changing Climate with Emphasis on Forest Health: A Review of Science, Policies, and Practices, Sweden in August 2008. The training workshop focused on science-policy interfacing in the context of global climate change. The sessions of the workshop were organized into four main sections: lecturing on international and national policy frameworks; introduction to best practices of science-policy interactions; group discussions on the evaluation of forest research projects, and wrap-up discussions with a panel of experts from international organizations and local university. A total of 22 scientists from 16 developing countries participated in the workshop and conference. 8 scientists from the Asia Pacific region were sponsored through this CAPaBLE Project.
