The Earth System Governance Project has set up an online discussion forum on 'international environmental governance' (the concept used in UNEP reform debates) and on the 'institutional framework for sustainable development' (the concept at the centre of the "Rio+20" Conference). The Project seeks to stimulate debate and share a wide range of resources to support reform processes and research efforts. The Earth System Governance Project is compiling a succinct policy-relevant assessment of the state of knowledge about the institutional framework for sustainable development, which is authored by over thirty international experts. This policy assessment, mandated by the four global change research programmes, will serve as a key input to the Rio+20 process. Urgent: Seeking proposals from developing countries. The 2012 international Planet Under Pressure conference organizer is seeking more session proposals specifically from developing countries,due to the limited number of proposals that come principally from these countries. Please help identify potential session convenors in your networks, and to encourage or assist them in submitting a proposal.

Whilst we will consider proposals articulating any relevant issues from a developing country point of view, we welcome proposals from the South. Further, proposals that include industry and/or policy interests are particularly welcomed, though not obligatory.

FAO Launches Web Portal on Capacity Development on Climate Change. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has a new web portal that focuses on learning materials and sources for capacity development on climate change. The portal aims to provide resources for member States, partners, UN staff and development actors to facilitate experience-sharing. The site includes FAO's Database of climate change related learning materials, integrated learning packages and training programmes offered by the FAO, e-learning trainings, an overview of climate related meetings, and a series of case studies from projects that focus on climate change capacity development. Climate Change Professional Fellows Program. This is an international program which will convene professionals and young emerging leaders from Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, and the United States to explore the science, impact, adaptation, mitigation and actions related to climate change. This program is funded through USAID. Eligible participants from Australia, China, Indonesia, and Japan can come to the U.S. in either the Spring (April 3, 2011 - May 6, 2011) or the Fall of 2011. Participants travel expenses, lodging, meals and educational materials are paid for by the program. Call for Proposals: Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Security (CCAFS). They are currently searching for women scientists who are interested in conducting research on gender issues related to the climate change, agriculture, and food security nexus, and are enrolled in a PhD program or are interested in a post doctoral opportunity.  Grants of US$35,000 will be provided to successful applicants.  The opportunity is open to women who are citizens of, and affiliated with, an institution in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Bangladesh, India, or Nepal. Registration for the 2011 Colorado Conference on Earth System Governance: Crossing Boundaries and Building Bridges (May 17-20, 2011) is currently open. This will bring together scholars and practitioners from around the world to discuss the challenge of achieving effective strategies of earth system governance.
