| Summary of Project |
Frequent flooding due to extreme climate events and unsustainable land use has caused landslides, which have damaged not only property, but also claimed the lives of many people across the globe. Considering the impact of climate change on the intensity of precipitation and global trade on the pattern of land use, landslides are expected to become a perennial problem in vulnerable areas in Asia. This project aims to contribute to the identification of landslide-prone areas and vulnerable people and also to inform policy-makers about the sustainability of the measurement, which will be fulfilled by developing an agent-based modeling framework for assessing vulnerability to flood-related landslide events in selected Asian countries. The target outcomes of this project are agent-based training modules, regional vulnerability maps, profiles of vulnerable communities, vulnerability framework, behavioural models of human adaptive decisions to landslide risks, lists of potential adaptation options and vulnerability indicators, and vulnerability futures under different adaptation policy scenarios. |
