Summary of Project Peatlands play a key role in global carbon storage and climate moderation, as well as providing various other benefits such as biodiversity, control of water flows, freshwater resources, and livelihood support to local communities. This project aims t o identify and assess the effectiveness of mitigation and adaptation options for tropical peatlands, support policy development and decision-making on mitigation and adaptation options for tropical peatlands, and strengthen links and cooperation between individuals and agencies working on peatlands and climate change in SEA. Projected outcomes of this project will be peer-reviewed papers on mitigation and adaptation options for tropical peat and an input to the UNFCCC on the analysis of possible adaptation options for peatlands to climate change. The research will also result in the refinement and promotion of web-based decision-making tools for adaptation and mitigation assessment in peatlands.
