| Summary of Project |
Air pollution is becoming a more serious environmental concern in Southeast Asia, especially with increasing economic growth. Characterisation and evaluation of emission sources (including biomass burning) and understanding the behaviour of key chemical species and aerosols are important in considering proper control strategies. The goal of this project is to measure selected species of air pollutants to provide reliable data to assess current ambient air pollution status in Southeast Asia. Elemental carbon and organic carbon (EC/OC) are the major components of aerosol in this region, and the physical and chemical properties (size distribution, hygroscopicity, etc.) of aerosols will be measured. Among its outcomes are databases on ambient air pollution and climate forcing potential in selected areas, quantitative source contributions of urban air pollution, policy recommendations for reduction of air pollution emission and effects, and scientific papers. |
