Despite the enormous significance for human activities of change and variability in the monsoon system, the number of scientists in the APN region with up-to-date knowledge of advances in monsoon science is still inadequate. This project consists of a workshop designed to impart knowledge of advances in monsoon science and modeling technologies to young and early career scientists and practitioners in the APN region. Participants will be selected through a competitive application and review process. The workshop will include lectures and group discussions, and participants will be reporting their own research and receive constructive advice. Participants will also learn emerging opportunities for collaborative regional research and in the international science programs (CLIVAR, WCRP and MAIRS). They will be informed on how climate data, including those of the Pacific Data Research Center can be accessed conveniently. These activities will increase the capacity of individuals and their home institution to engage in advanced research regarding the monsoon system, including prediction of its change and variability, and related applications.
