Asia-Pacific Environmental Innovation Strategy Project (APEIS)

In many cases, environmental monitoring and assessment, environmental strategy development including assistance programs have so far been implemented without close coordination and integration among these components and among countries in the Asia-Pacific Region. The Asia-Pacific Environmental Innovation Strategy Project (APEIS) will be a package of synergistic environmental policies for Asia and the Pacific Region, comprising of effectively combined these three components, i.e. monitoring, assessment and strategy development. Information technologies and other technological innovations are expected to be fully incorporated in the Strategy. APEIS should be organized and implemented with full participation and collaboration among countries and organizations in the Region, both policy-makers and scientists

The APN is a strong partner for APEIS. The APN's research, networking and capacity building activities are important for the region and can contribute effectively to APEIS. The annual report using APN existing publications and output from synthesis seminars will be useful resources for APEIS. Moreover, the holding of sub-regional workshops on integrated monitoring and assessment, in collaboration with participating research institutes in APEIS, will offer good opportunities for capacity building, particularly to those researchers who are potential contributors to APEIS and the APN in the future.
